As strength and conditioning coach at Barking Abbey Academy, London, I have the privilege to work with a variety of athlete over a number of sports. The academy has one of the best basketball programmes in the country, with many academy athletes representing national teams from U14 up to senior level. Each year many of the graduating class move on to bigger and better things and pursue their basketball careers at university in America or professionally abroad.
Barking Abbey also boasts a successful netball team, that has players represent regional and national teams as well as being squad members to professional superleague teams.
A big part of my job is to ensure they remain healthy and prepare them physically for this next level, while also having an immediate effect on their current performance. This season both the basketball and netball academy as well as the professional teams have achieve great success on the court and made great progress from a strength and conditioning perspective also.
Congratulations on a great season. However the greatest enemy of tomorrow success is today’s success. So we are not satisfied with today’s success and both DO Training and my athletes are working hard in the off season to do bigger and better things next season.
